Treatment

Jane uses the McKenzie Method to promote the body’s potential to heal itself without heat medication, cold, ultrasound, needles, surgery or a force dependent on the practitioner.

This also addresses a growing demand from patients and third party payers for professional rehabilitation services that develop the patient’s self treatment skills in a cost effective and time effective manner.

The achievable goals are to:

  • Eliminate symptoms
  • Restore full function
  • Prevent recurrences

Physiotherapy using this method includes one or all of the following:

  • assessment to determine the cause of the problem
  • an exercise programme prescribed to suit each patient
  • advice and implementation of strategies to prevent recurrence of symptoms
  • tips for travelling to avoid neck and back pain

Acute and chronic conditions are suitable for assessment and treatment.

A physician notes:
It is so simple and effective, ...
Every patient should (first) have the opportunity for a
McKenzie assessment.

Three Simple Steps
Assessment
Unique to the McKenzie Method is a comprehensive and step by step process to evaluate the patient’s problem quickly.  A McKenzie assessment can eliminate the need for expensive and/or invasive procedures.

Treatment
McKenzie treatment prescribes a series of individualized exercises. The emphasis is on active patient involvement reducing visits to the clinic.  Most patients can successfully treat themselves when provided the necessary knowledge and tools.  For patients with more difficult problems, a McKenzie clinician can provide advanced hands on techniques until the patient can self administer.

Prevention
By learning to self treat the current problem, patients gain knowledge on how to minimize the risk of recurrence and to rapidly deal with pain if it recurs.
